Do It Yourself (DIY)

What is the estimated price? Best gets 10 points?

nucci s asked:

1. I wish to make a DIY wooden garage-type building for paintball. It would probably be at most 270 sq. ft. Probably one window, no garagedoor, and one/two regular doors. It doesn’t need to be high-quality, but needs to be waterproof (cedar/ paints/ coating). I have the doors already. Also, what is the average renting price for land, if I can’t get it for free, for policing and keeping the area clean, etc.?

2. Would I need a zoning permit and/or other permits? What does it take to get one?

Thanks for the help.

how should i go about insulating my garage?

HAnnAH asked:

my garage is a double garage with two big metal doors and a wooden sliding one. the two big metal doors aren’t needed really.
anyway i have electricity down there and i want to be able to keep it warm, because next year it goes from my brother to me. i am planning on buying some old carpet and putting that down but what is a CHEAP way for me to keep it warmer in the garage, bearing in mind i can’t put anything in the walls or w.e so preferably insulation i can stick somewhere or something?? there is also a gap between the metal doors and the floor.

Insulating attached garage?

Mike asked:

My metal garage door faces west,..super hot in the summer. I have a plan for insulating that. My problem is insulating the other 3 walls. BTW, the entire garage is sheetrocked. I know of the blown in kind, where you drill a 5″ hole at the top. And then there’s tearing down all of the sheetrock, insulate and re-sheetrocking again. The problem with the drilling hole is the mess, I guess. And how it may not all settle in there to the bottom to get the full advantage of “blown in” insulation. The problem with re-sheetrocking is a bigger mess and an unhappy wife. Now here’s a curve ball. At Loew’s, I found 4′x8′ sheathing. It comes in a few different thickness’s. Can this type just be placed right against the existing sheetrock? I could measure, cut and fit the whole garage in a day! I think Ive seen this stuff put on newly built house’s right after the wooden frame goes up, but on the outside of the house. Then they put up the brick. Im only looking for a descent amount of relief. Very hot in the summer. The garage is just that, a garage. Some gym equipment, gardening tools, my little workshop in the corner and thats it. Any thoughts are much appreciated.
