Strange question for this section but mom’s are helpful?
My SO and I are first time home buyers. We have to close before November 30 to get teh tax credit. However we have an FHA loan and we got locked in at a certain credit rating which is only good till October 15th. Which means we have to close by then. We have a short window or we will miss it. Anyhow, we put an offer in on our dream house and we got outbid. Now everything we look at just seems like there are too many thing wrong with it. we need a fence as we have five dogs. We need at least three rooms as I am due in January with our first, but he has a son from a previous relationship that visits often and i would like for him to have his own room as well.
So i guess here is my question. If you were buying a house what would you pick out of these two houses (the two we have narrowed it down to)
House #1:
-Older, built in 1978
-no fence but could connect to neighbors fences on two sides
-old wooden windows (cost about $200 to replace with energy efficient windows and if you put them in this year you can get your money back on your tax return)
-crawl space under house
-small master bath(smaller than a hotel bathroom)
-Inside is COMPLETELY renovated(new carpet, new paint, new granite countertops in kitchen and bathrooms, new lighting fixtures throughout, new stainless steel appliances is kitchen, new stone fireplace, new garage doors)
House #2
-newer, built in 1999
-no apliances
-fenced in yard (yard is small)
-cookie cutter house so it is smaller
-new garage door
-would need to paint
-need new flooring sooner or later
-slab
-already has good windows
one house needs work on outside and one on the inside. I’m going for house 1 I think but SO thinks house 2. what would you do?
