Are brown garage doors a fashion trend ?

The South Florida neighbourhood I live in is undergoing a curious makeover…every week, 2 or 3 home owners are painting their garage doors brown. I have never seen so many people copy each other like this. Does anyone know why brown is suddenly in for garage doors ? Is this just a fashion thing or is this some kind of religious or cultural statement ? Is it happening else where in the country (US) ?
Out of 200 hundred houses there are about 10 that have gone brown already.
(It does look pretty hideous !)
